قيل (قال) qāla i (qail, قائلة qā’ila, قيلولةqailūla, قيل qīl) to take a midday nap; to hold siesta II do. IV to abolish, repeal, annul (هـ s.th.); to cancel, abrogate, rescind, revoke (هـ s.th., esp. a sale); to depose, dismiss, discharge (هـ s.o.; also with من المنصب min al-manṣib from his office); to free, release, exempt (ه s.o., من from an obligation)│اقال الله عثرتك (‘atrataka) may God regard your offence as undone; اقاله من عثرته (‘atratihī) to steady one who has stumbled X to demand the cancellation, seek the abrogation (هـ of a sale); to ask (ه s.o.) for exemption, release, or annulment; to request to be released from office, tender one’s resignation, resign (من or عن from an office); to resign one’s commission, quit the service; to ask s.o.’s (ه) pardon, apologize (ه to s.o.)
